William Crager
Chief Executive Officer
As Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Envestnet, Bill Crager drives the ongoing expansion of the firm’s innovative financial wellness network.
In addition to leading Envestnet’s mission to make financial wellness a reality for more people, Mr. Crager is responsible for Envestnet’s Strategy, Finance, Legal, and Human Resources departments. He also oversees Envestnet | MoneyGuide, Envestnet | PMC and Envestnet Analytics, to empower advisors with better intelligence through a unified advice platform. Mr. Crager and the late Jud Bergman were among the first in the managed solutions industry to attempt to streamline independent advisors’ practices by offering a broad range of fee-based products side by side within an easily accessible, open-architecture portal. More than 20 years after its establishment, Envestnet, under the leadership of Mr. Bergman and Mr. Crager, has grown into the leading managed solutions service provider by total platform assets and number of advisors served—and is uniquely positioned to help advisors adapt to changes in how essential advice is defined (and delivered).
In 2015, the Money Management Institute bestowed its highest honor on Mr. Crager, naming him that year’s Industry Pioneer. He was voted one of the IA25 by readers of ThinkAdvisor and Investment Advisor magazine in 2020.
Prior to joining Envestnet, Mr. Crager served as a Managing Director at Nuveen (formerly Rittenhouse Financial Services). While there, he developed a widely recognized initiative that integrated value-added investor communications with a technology-driven client service platform. Mr. Crager received a BA from Fairfield University where he majored in economics and now serves on the Fairfield Board of Trustees.
