The morning session began with a welcome address from Judson Bergman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Envestnet, followed by an update on the acquisition of Tamarac by Envestnet and the plans to create a groundbreaking fully integrated solution for  registered investment advisors, from  Stuart DePina, Group President, Envestnet | Tamarac™.

"Being able to draw upon resources and intellectual capital from other divisions within Envestnet has allowed us to plan a conference that will help users of our software suite perform their jobs even more efficiently and also share best practices to drive their business growth," said Mr. DePina. "In addition to the sessions devoted to making better use of our proprietary technology, this year we've also added an entire practice management track to appeal to more owners and principals – where having experience with our software isn't a prerequisite for gaining great value from the content."

The welcoming address was followed by keynote speaker Davis Janowski, Technology Columnist for InvestmentNews. During his hour-long session, Mr. Janowski identified some of the latest trends in technology and talked about what the technological future holds in store for RIAs.

Another highlight of the first day's sessions was a presentation by J. Gibson "Gib" Watson, III, Group President, Envestnet | Prima, entitled "Steering Clear of the Perfect Storm: Solving the Fixed Income Dilemma in Investors' Portfolios." "It's important that advisors be prepared for continuing volatility and economic uncertainty," said Mr. Watson. "One way to do that is to wholeheartedly embrace rational open architecture and a holistic advice model that emphasizes service together with portfolio construction and management, utilizing independent research, due diligence and advice as key components of that process."

While much of the conference includes advanced learning sessions on the Advisor Xi products, Tamarac also caters to beginning users by offering Tamarac University training courses during the two days prior to the conference.  In addition to the conference, Tamarac University is held monthly across all offerings in either Seattle or Chicago.

This highly-focused classroom training program covered the use of Tamarac's Advisor Rebalancing, Advisor View and Advisor CRM software, enabling attendees to use these software solutions to create basic and advanced models, set up allocation strategies, conduct portfolio rebalancing, automate loss harvesting strategies, execute directed trades, build custom reports and perform dozens of other important tasks.

Many of the first day's educational sessions drew upon the expert insights of executives within the Envestnet family For example, Tim Clift, managing director and chief investment strategist for Envestnet | PMC®, led a session on emerging trends in portfolio construction. Other industry-leading firms were also on hand to offer practical insights to RIAs. For example, a panel on mergers and acquisitions featured executives from HighTower, United Capital and Focus Financial, who talked about how their firms evaluate potential merger partners.

Upcoming conference events include a panel discussion featuring senior executives representing the four top custodial firms: Fidelity Institutional Wealth Services, Schwab Advisor Services, TD Ameritrade Institutional and Pershing Advisor Solutions. Also scheduled is the Tamarac Advisor Xi Roadmap session, an annual discussion during which advisors share their real-life experiences with Tamarac products and suggest new features and integrations.
